Film career

Goundamani has entertained two generations of Tamil people with his unique style of comedy. His dialogues are woven with sarcasm and contempt. His dialogue delivery is perfect and is accompanied with impeccable body language. His most famous piece of comedy is the "Vazhaipazham" (Banana) joke with Senthil, in the film Karagaatakkaran. He is a household name in Tamil Nadu; his jokes cater to every age-group and class of audience.

He has also been the protagonist in movies such as Raja Enga Raja and Pirandhaen Valarndhaen. These movies turned out to be good family entertainers and comedies. He acted as Hero in 10 films.

Some of his memorable movies are with lead actors such as Sathyaraj, Karthik, Rajinikanth, Arjun, Parthiban, Jayaram, Kamal Hassan and Prabhu. In several Tamil films, he has even accompanied the lead actor in almost all of the scenes (sometimes even in the songs).

Early days in his career he had a memorable role in 'Padhinaru vayadinile' as a sidekick. Later in early 80's he had several hits like Unnai nan santhithen, Vaidhegi kathirundal, etc. Late eighties his career got revived in 'Karagatakkaran' after a long slump, which can be attributed to comedians like Janakaraj. In the 90's his career peaked in such a way that it was hard to make a hit Tamil film without him. Later his career flagged, largely due to illness, including kidney stones and Jaundice.

In many movies he would deliver dialogs with double meaning (double entendre).
